Canada Type News | April 2007

Font Releases:

-Jezebel: The Jezebel design was extrapolated from two early 70s film ideas called Hampshire and HarperÕs Bazaar. Both were uncredited, somewhat badly drawn, almost impossible to typeset satisfactorily, and very limited in character set. It was necessary to go back to the drawing book to explore a better balance and easier setting potential. The subsequent character set expansion took Jezebel to a much superior level of functionality, with the addition of multiple alternates and swashes to fit a perfectionistÕs eye.

-Player: The Player family started as a straight-forward revival of a film face called Ivy League, an early 1970s VGC classic that was very popular with designers of sports paraphernalia. A few hundred liters of coffee later, the revival of a single condensed font has become an 11-font ambitious attempt at being the last word in athletic lettering. For the serious athletic jersey and sports collateral designer, the Player family has many advantages over other ÒcollegeÓ and ÒvarsityÓ fonts.

April 2007 Notes:

- Canada Type work is featured in Computer Arts Projects, the British design magazine. Nice publication. We recommend you check it out.

- April is a month of birthdays at Canada Type, so until the end of the month every font by Patrick or Rebecca is 15% less than usual.

- Congratulations to Vladimir Ekart from the Czech Republic, Nico Swanink from the Netherlands, and Diana Wolverton and Kevin McGuiness from the USA. They were the winners of last month's random draw. The next draw will happen on May 2, and four lucky ones from our April customers will receive their choice of any Canada Type font package (excluding value packs). Winners will be notified by email during the first weekend in May.

Thanks for spending some time with Canada Type, and see you again in May.
