Canada Type News | August 2007

Font Releases:

-Jupiter: Jupiter is a take on the Roman alphabet the way it looked in Roman times. It is also influenced by many different historical interpretations of the Roman alphabet, most notably the work of Friedrich Poppl, whose rough Nero typeface was a very beautiful expression, though a bit too calligraphic in concept. Jupiter comes in all popular font formats for both Mac and PC, and supports more than 40 Latin-based languages, as well as Greek. The Postcript and True Type versions include a font of alternates and a font of ligatures, both filled to the brims with interesting variations on the main character set. Jupiter Pro, the OpenType version, is a single font tied together with programmed features, and is best used within software programs that support advanced typography, like Adobe InDesign CS+, Adobe Illustrator CS+, and QuarkXpress 7+.

-VIP: VIP is a humanist sans serif uppercase and figures combined with a freshly redrawn revival of the classic VGC Contanze initials. As well as a vehicle to revive the Constanze initials, VIP was inspired by modern typography found in many artful books, on many product packages, and on the windows and literature of high-end restaurants, jewelry stores, haute couture fashion sellers, architecture firms and trendy brand name establishments. If you've walked through the soho or downtown of any major metropolitan, you've seen them: Widely tracked words or lines starting with a script majuscule and going on with clean and comfortable sans serif caps. If classy modern combination typography is your thing, you will find much pleasure in using VIP.

-Vox: Vox, an extensive monoline sans serif family, is the manifestation of the idea for a typeface that can be both precise and friendly, yet contain enough choice of totally interchangeable variation for a more defined appearance, ranging from the clean and nondescript information relayer to the angular, futuristic and sleek headline maker. The main character set, including extended support for Latin, Cyrillic and Greek scripts, is complemented with small caps, a full alternate character set, and even more alernates, in three weights and corresponding italics across the board Ñ 24 fonts in all. The Pro (OpenType) version is 6 fonts containing over 1000 characters each, and pre-loaded with the following OT features: Small Caps (including SC numbers, punctuation and enclosers), Caps To Small Caps, Stylistic Alternates, some Fractions, and some Contextual Alternates. Vox is priced affordably as piecemeal or a complete package.

August 2007 Notes:

- Many of our customers have asked, and we are obliging: This month we have introduced a new licensing system that takes into account students, home users, and non-commercial work. Every font of ours can now be purchased under a personal limited use license which is priced at 20-35% off the commercial license price. For example, a font that costs $19.95 for a commercial license can now be purchased for $14.95 if you are using it for non-commercial work.

- Evolver, a customer techno favorite, was updated to include a lighter weight for both the upright and italic styles.

- Congratulations to Mikael Zielinski from Sweden, David Baxter from South Africa, and Cheryl McVeigh and Vivian Pinelli from the USA. They were the winners of last month's random draw. The next draw will happen on September 1, and four from our August customers will receive their choice of any Canada Type font package (excluding value packs). Winners will be notified by email by September 4.

Thanks for spending some time with Canada Type, and see you again in September.
